Mike Kinkel
CEO & Project Manager

Mike is the founder and CEO at Custom Controls of Arizona. He leads with a deep sense of gratitude and purpose. He considers his role a privilege, driven by a vision to create opportunities for his team to succeed both professionally and personally. Mike is passionate about building a strong, mission-driven organization that empowers individuals to achieve meaningful success for themselves and their families. He believes his team is the most valuable resource for ensuring quality product and customer satisfaction. Mike enjoys traveling with his wife and family and is a very proud father of 3 children.

Jeff Egnew
Chief Operating Officer

Jeff is the COO at Custom Controls and helps to manage the daily operations, financial performance, business development and strategic directions of the company. Jeff is the founder of another company and has spent his career focusing on team building, strategic planning, business development, and budget management. His passions include bow hunting, fly fishing, traveling and creating memories with his wife and children.

Aaron Dotterer
Purchasing & Office Manager

Aaron is the CFO and Administrative Manager at Custom Controls. He oversees the accounting department and the implementation of our manufacturing and inventory software. He also makes sure the office and administrative processes run smoothly. He has worked at Custom Controls for over 10 years, holds a bachelor’s degree and is certified in QuickBooks. Aaron enjoys art and music, the outdoors, and spending time with his partner.

Owen Maurer
Production Manager

Owen is the production leader and manager for Custom Controls of AZ. Owen has been with Custom Controls of Arizona for over 20 years and oversees all factory operations. He leads a team of 30 and has instilled in our culture an attitude of efficiency, product quality, integrity and continuous improvement. He believes that growth is not optional and is achieved by having a team that possesses the values of Discipline, Integrity, Teamwork, and Hard Work. Owen spends his free time with his wife and six children.

Connor Estrada
Purchasing Manager

Connor is the Purchasing Manager for Custom Controls of Arizona. Connor has proudly worked at Custom Controls for over a decade and has experience in building control panels, outside service, shipping and receiving and now is the purchasing manager. Connor works closely with our distribution partners to properly plan the accurate procurement of parts and is a key resource for our engineering team when planning projects. Personally, Connor is married and a proud father of three children.

Brent Bones
Director of Engineering

Brent Bones is a seasoned professional with over 30 years of experience in automation and control systems for the manufacturing industry. Holding a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University (ASU), Brent has developed deep expertise in the field, working on a range of projects that have shaped the industry. He has been an independent contractor for Custom Controls for 16 years and has recently joined the team as our Director of Engineering. Brent is married and a proud father of two children. His greatest joy comes from using his skills to help his children reach their goals. Outside of work, Brent enjoys spending time outdoors, with hobbies that include camping, fishing, and hiking. He also devotes time to his passion for building things in his workshop.

Alex Toth
Project Manager

Alex is our Senior Project Manager with over 22 years in the HVAC industry, including 17 at Custom Controls. His focus and specialty is in industrial HVAC for data centers. He drives complex projects to success with precision and innovation, Alex is also has a current MTR certification. Outside work, Alex is a husband, father, rock climber, fly fisherman, and blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Ronald Miller
IT / Field Service Manager / PLC Logic Programmer

Ronald is an experienced automation specialist with a strong background in custom software programming and PLC development. With a deep expertise in optimizing industrial processes, he designs and implements efficient, reliable automation solutions tailored to each project’s unique needs. Passionate about innovation and problem-solving, Ronald ensures seamless system integration, increased productivity, and enhanced operational efficiency. His dedication to automation extends beyond his career, as he enjoys tackling complex challenges in both professional and personal settings. Outside of work, he is passionate about video gaming and spending quality time with his family.

Isaac Maurer
Shop Supervisor/Lead
Panel Builder

Isaac has worked with Custom Controls for 20 years. He is well versed in all aspects of electrical manufacturing, with specific expertise in panel assembly, electrical testing, quality control, and team leadership. Isaac developed a top notch educational program that improved our training process with new team members and has helped to get new employees familiar with electrical schematics, parts, and safety while assembling electrical control panels. He is currently a project manager and estimator for large-scale custom projects. His motto is that each new project represents an opportunity for our company to showcase our professionalism, experience, quality, and commitment to customer service.

Clay Kinkel
Operations Manager

Clay is the Operations Manager at our Tempe location. He is responsible for project management, accounts payable, shipping and receiving, inventory management, and customer relations. He focuses on operational efficiency and continual improvement at our Tempe location. His goals are to support all departments in meeting the company standards of quality, efficiency, and consistency. Clay is a graduate of Boise State University with a bachelor degree in business management.
